Hamilton Heights Senior Photos at Koteewi and the Huskies Football Field
Ryan’s senior session had the best kind of variety. We started with spring senior photos at Koteewi, tucked back near the nature center with tall green grass, soft trees, and the kind of light that makes everything feel fresh without trying too hard. Then we ended at Hamilton Heights for cap and gown photos at the football field, which gave the whole session that full-circle senior year feeling.
We started with spring senior photos at Koteewi, then finished with cap and gown portraits at Hamilton Heights, creating a session that perfectly blended nature with meaningful Hamilton Heights senior photos.
Ryan is a Hamilton Heights Class of 2026 senior, and after graduation, she is headed to Indiana University. So this session had a little bit of everything: relaxed nature portraits, IU gear, a white dress, cap and gown, the Home of the Huskies entrance, and a few photos with her sister before everything changes in the way senior year always seems to do.
It felt like the right mix of where she has been and where she is going next.
Spring Senior Photos at Koteewi
For the first part of Ryan’s session, we met at Koteewi near the nature center. Koteewi is one of those senior photo locations that can feel rustic and natural without looking too heavy or dark. In the spring, everything is green and soft, which made it a great fit for the light and airy look Ryan wanted.
She started in an Indiana University shirt, denim skirt, and black boots, which worked so well against the tall grass and spring trees. It gave the photos a casual, stylish feel while still keeping them connected to what comes after graduation.
That is one of my favorite ways to include college plans in senior photos. It does not have to become the entire theme of the session. Sometimes one shirt, one pennant, one small detail, or one outfit is enough to make the photos feel personal without turning the whole gallery into a giant college announcement.
Koteewi also gave us space to keep things relaxed. We had room for movement, softer portraits, a few laughing shots, and photos that felt easy instead of overly posed. For seniors who like nature, country-inspired locations, tall grass, trees, and a little bit of room to breathe, Koteewi is such a good option for Hamilton County senior photos.
Bringing IU Into Her Senior Session
Ryan is headed to IU in the fall, so we made sure to work that into the session in a way that felt natural. The red Indiana shirt stood out so beautifully against all the green at Koteewi, and later, her IU details came back into the cap and gown portion of the session too.
This is something I always love for spring senior pictures. By spring, most seniors know what is coming next. College decisions have been made, caps and gowns are showing up, graduation starts feeling less like a distant idea and more like a calendar event breathing down everyone’s neck.
Including future-college gear is a simple way to document that part of senior year. It can be a college shirt, a sweatshirt, a pennant, a hat, or even just colors that nod to the next chapter. For Ryan, the IU pieces helped connect the whole session without taking away from the portraits themselves.
The goal is not to make every photo about college. The goal is to make the gallery feel like this exact moment in life: still a Hamilton Heights senior, almost an IU student, standing right in the middle of both.
Cap and Gown Photos at Hamilton Heights
After Koteewi, we headed over to Hamilton Heights for cap and gown senior photos. This part of the session gave us a totally different feel, which is exactly why I love combining a natural location with a school location when it makes sense.
We used the Hamilton Heights football field entrance, the Home of the Huskies sign, the school building, and all those black and orange details that make the photos immediately recognizable to anyone who has spent years there. These are the kinds of photos that might not feel fancy in the moment, but they end up mattering because they are so specific.
Ryan wore a white dress with her cap and gown, and it photographed so beautifully against the school colors. We used the cap, tassel, gown, and IU details for variety, including a few simple graduation detail shots. The tassel hanging from her shoe was one of those small photos that tells the whole story without needing much else.
Cap and gown photos at your high school are always worth considering, especially if you're looking for creative graduation photo ideas that feel personal. The park portraits are beautiful, of course, but the school photos say something different. They say: this was my team, my hallway, my parking lot, my field, my last year here.
And for Hamilton Heights seniors, the football field entrance is such a strong spot for that.
Including Her Sister in a Few Senior Photos
Ryan’s sister joined for a few photos at the end, and I loved that we included her without making the whole session about family photos.
Senior sessions do not have to include siblings, parents, pets, grandparents, best friends, and half the neighborhood unless that is actually what you want. But a few photos with someone important can make the gallery feel more complete.
For Ryan, the photos with her sister holding the IU pennant felt sweet and easy. Not overly posed, not too much, just a little pocket of this season before life starts shifting. Senior year is obviously about the graduate, but it also changes the rhythm of the whole family. A quick sibling photo can be one of those images everyone is really glad they have later.
Especially when one kid is getting ready to leave for college and everyone is pretending to be very casual about it.
Why Two Locations Worked So Well
This session worked so well because Koteewi and Hamilton Heights gave Ryan two totally different parts of her senior year.
Koteewi gave us the softer side: spring grass, nature, movement, relaxed portraits, and an easy place to bring in her IU shirt. Hamilton Heights gave us the graduation side: cap and gown, school pride, the football field, and the kind of location that makes the photos feel rooted in her actual senior year.
That is why two locations can be such a good choice for senior pictures. You do not need to drive all over central Indiana or pack a suitcase full of props. Sometimes the best plan is one location that feels like your style, then one location that means something.
For Ryan, that meant rustic spring senior photos at Koteewi, then Hamilton Heights senior photos to finish the session at the place she is graduating from.
Simple, meaningful, and not overcomplicated. My favorite little trio.

A few things to think about before your session:
Bring one outfit that feels like your everyday style, one outfit that feels a little more dressed up, and one senior-year detail like a cap and gown, college shirt, letter jacket, jersey, or future-school accessory. You do not need to bring every important thing you have ever owned. We are not packing for a semester abroad. We just want enough variety to show who you are right now.
Spring is also a great time for cap and gown senior photos because so many of the details are finally in place. You usually have your graduation outfit, college plans are becoming more official, and the whole thing starts to feel real in a way it maybe did not back in the fall.
