Hi I’m Lauren, Meet Your Indianapolis Family Photographer.
And your personal guide to capturing candid family moments.
How It All Began
Welcome friend! It's wonderful to meet you. I'm Lauren Lewis- a family and newborn photographer and your self-proclaimed Chaos Coordinator Extraordinaire.
I'll let you in on a little secret - I didn’t set out to be a photographer, but I’ve always known that my heart’s work centered around embracing the beauty and chaos of raising children. I went to IUPUI, majoring in education, and ended up as a nanny for Westfield and Noblesville families. After I had my daughter, I opened an in-home childcare service (and ran it successfully for 10+ years!). Suffice it to say, children are my passion, and I do crazy very, very well.
One year, I received a starter camera for my birthday, and I fell in love. Suddenly, and with a camera in hand, life made sense. It didn’t take long before I realized that I could capture more than just a “nice” photo of my kids. My camera could catch moments. Feelings. I obsessively spent hours learning and critiquing my own work, striving to capture the unspoken story that sung in my heart every time I observed a family dynamic. I realized that I could share the heart’s narrative of other Indianapolis area families, and that this is exactly where I’m meant to be.
Welcome to The Heart Narrative.
I am a proud participating photographer with the Gold Hope Project, founded with three missions:
1) Education & Awareness: Educate our communities about pediatric cancer and raise awareness of
the disease.
2) Free Photo Sessions: Photographing any pediatric cancer patient at any stage of treatment, remission, or survivorship.
3) Fund Innovative Research: Support, encourage, and raise funds for pediatric cancer research.
My Superpower is Turning Your Messy into Magic.
As a parent and former childcare provider, I get motherhood. From feeling like you're doing too much and yet not enough, to finding your identity somewhere between "I am woman, hear me roar" and "I am mom, hear me yell."
I see you, I've been there.
We are in it together.
The Why Behind It All
For years before I had kids of my own, I nannied. I loved it (babies and kids are my jam.) Getting to be a part of shaping the lives of perfect, tiny humans is such a joy for me. So when we discovered that I was pregnant with Lyla (my first), I knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that I was going to ROCK this motherhood gig.
And I did… doubt I mean. Were they sleeping enough, eating enough, warm enough? Should I hold her? Put her down? Take her out in public? Was I treasuring every moment? Should I feel guilty for wanting a break? Am I a good mom?
Is she going to be a good human? Am I holding tightly enough onto every-single-moment-because-I’ll-never-get-their-babyhood-back?
As parents, we have all been there. I see you. Your worry, your love, and the gorgeous gift that your children are in your lives. That’s why authenticity is so vital to the way I see and capture your families. I want you to hold onto these moments, always. Through all the worry and doubt of parenting, I realized - I am the mom I most want to be, when I stop to embrace the chaos and lean into my family.
I think about that every time I pick up a camera…
And it’s why I absolutely LOVE what I do. I capture the chaos and realness of your family, preserving those precious moments in time through newborn and family photography - and being a Chaos Coordinator Extraordinare for families in Westfield, Indiana and the surrounding areas.
