Cap and Gown Graduation Session | Sheridan High School Senior Photos
There are some sessions that feel a little more personal than others, and Mac’s cap and gown session was definitely one of those. I’ve known Mac since she was in elementary school, back when life mostly revolved around recess, playground politics, and figuring out who got to sit where at snack time. Watching kids you’ve known that long walk into their senior year feels a little surreal. One minute they’re tiny humans with backpacks bigger than their torsos, and the next they’re putting on a cap and gown and getting ready to head off to college.
Mac is graduating from Sheridan High School this year, and before she takes the next big step toward studying veterinary medicine at Purdue, we met up for a cap and gown session right at the place where the last four years of her life have unfolded.
And of course, because sessions with this crew are never boring, her mom Kristy and her sister Remi came along too.
Which basically guaranteed a lot of laughing.
Celebrating Senior Year at Sheridan High School
There is something really special about taking senior graduation photos at the high school where everything actually happened. The football field where Friday nights were spent. The entrance everyone walked through every morning. The bleachers where students sat through games, events, and probably a few very long assemblies.
Sheridan High School gave us the perfect backdrop for Mac’s cap and gown session. The bold school colors, the stadium, and the front entrance all helped tell the story of this chapter of her life coming to a close.
Senior year goes by quickly, and graduation sessions like this are a way to pause for a moment before everything changes.
Why Cap and Gown Senior Sessions Are Worth It
A lot of seniors take photos earlier in the year, which is great, but cap-and-gown sessions have a completely different feel. These photos were taken right at the finish line. The hard work is done. Graduation is around the corner. College plans are starting to feel real. There is a sense of excitement and relief that shows up naturally in the photos.
Cap and gown sessions are also a chance to document the accomplishment itself. The cap, the tassel, the stole, the cords, the whole moment that represents years of work finally paying off.
And yes, throwing the cap in the air is absolutely encouraged.
Photographing Seniors at Their High School
One of my favorite parts of senior photography is incorporating locations that actually matter to the student. For Mac, Sheridan High School made perfect sense. It’s where she spent four years growing, learning, making friends, and figuring out what comes next.
We walked around some of the familiar spots on campus, stopped by the stadium, and of course made time for the classic cap toss moment on the field. There is something about standing in the middle of the football field in a cap and gown that makes the whole graduation thing feel very real.
And Mackenzie absolutely nailed it. She has one of those smiles that shows up easily and makes photographing her ridiculously easy.
The Best Kind of Tag-Alongs
One of the best parts of this session was having Kristy and Remi along for the ride.
I’ve known Remi since she was one of my original daycare “babies,” which is a sentence that feels wild to say now because she is fully a high schooler herself. Watching these kids grow up and getting to document these big moments along the way is one of the things I love most about this job. And when this family is together, there is never a shortage of commentary or laughter.
After all, cap and Gown Graduation sessions are always more fun when the people who know you best are standing nearby making jokes and cheering you on between photos.
A Future at Purdue University
Mac is heading to Purdue to study veterinary medicine, which feels like such a perfect fit for her. Anyone who has spent time around someone who loves animals knows it’s not just a career choice, it’s a part of who she is.
The next chapter for Mac will look very different from the hallways of Sheridan High School, but that’s exactly what makes senior year so exciting. It’s the moment where everything starts opening up and new paths begin. Graduation is both an ending and a beginning, and documenting that moment is something seniors and their families will look back on for years.
Senior Graduation Photos in Sheridan Indiana
For seniors in Sheridan Indiana, cap and gown sessions are a great way to celebrate the end of high school in a way that feels personal and relaxed. Instead of a formal studio setting, these sessions focus on meaningful locations and real moments. The result is a set of photographs that capture not just what a senior looked like during graduation season, but what it actually felt like. Excited. A little nervous. Ready for the next step.
And maybe just a little surprised that the last four years went by so quickly.
