Milestone Breastfeeding Session at Cool Creek in Westfield, Indiana
When Lee Ann reached out to schedule a breastfeeding milestone session with her son Parker, my heart instantly said yes. I’ve photographed this family many times over the years, and Cool Creek in Westfield has always been part of their story. It’s where we did their very first family session together, so coming back for this new chapter felt full circle. This milestone wasn’t just about photos — it was about honoring the quiet, sacred bond between mother and child.
Why Breastfeeding Milestones Deserve to Be Documented
Motherhood moves fast. There are a thousand little moments that pass before we even realize they’ve become memories. Breastfeeding is one of those seasons- tender, raw, and fleeting. It deserves to be remembered with the same care as first steps or birthdays. These sessions aren’t about perfection or posing. They’re about presence. They tell the story of comfort, connection, and love that fills the in-between moments. Whether you nurse for a few months or a few years, this part of your journey matters. It’s worth celebrating. Breastfeeding journeys are never easy, but often rewarding- new mothers deserve to see their motherhood through fresh eyes. It allows us feel seen, valid, and worthy.
Why Cool Creek Park Was the Perfect Setting
Cool Creek Park in Westfield, Indiana, has a calm, grounded beauty that fits this kind of session perfectly. The trees filter light softly, the creek adds gentle movement, and the open fields glow at sunset. It’s easy to relax here and focus on what matters most.
We started beneath the trees, where Parker could snuggle close while Lee Ann held him in that familiar, safe rhythm. Later we wandered toward the water, where he played with leaves and giggled while the sun dropped low through the branches. The evening ended in one of Cool Creek’s open meadows, surrounded by golden light and quiet laughter.
Styling Notes for Outdoor Breastfeeding Sessions
Lee Ann kept things simple — a soft, neutral dress that moved with the breeze and a linen romper for Parker. These tones photographed beautifully against the greens and golds of the park.
If you’re planning a nursing or motherhood session, think textures and layers that allow for closeness. Flowy dresses, soft blankets, and light fabrics always work well outdoors. Comfort first. That’s where the magic happens.
The Emotions Behind the Gallery
Photographing this milestone felt like freezing time for just a second. You can feel the story in every image — the quiet strength, the love, the deep calm that only a mother can give.
I met Lee Ann almost seven years ago- we had a random Facebook Marketplace stop, and ended up bonding over motherhood, boys, and breastfeeding (I was organizing the local Big Latch On at the time). The first family I ever photographed was her family of (then!) three. Since then, I’ve had the honor of photographing her daughter’s first birthday, as well as their maternity session when she was pregnant with Parker! I loved that we went a little full circle, seeing as our first shoot together was at Cool Creek, too. Seeing her step into this chapter was a reminder of why I do this work. These photos are a visual love letter to motherhood — not polished, not posed, but honest and full of heart.
