Lauren and I first met years ago at a Big Latch On breastfeeding event I organized in Noblesville, and we instantly connected over motherhood, coffee, and the funny coincidence of sharing the same name. Even more ironic, she is a photographer too. This was our second session together, and watching her and her daughter, Tessa, interact again reminded me why I love what I do. The bond between them is easy to see and even easier to feel.
Motherhood is such a wild, tender mix of losing yourself and finding a new version of you all at once. We spend so much time trying to do it right that we sometimes forget to simply be. To pause in the chaos, breathe in the moment, and see the beauty in who we have become, both separately and together.
A Heartfelt Mother Daughter Photoshoot in Westfield, Indiana
This session was actually a Christmas gift, and I think we would both agree it turned out to be one of the best presents imaginable. We met at MacGregor Park, surrounded by native Indiana wildflowers that seemed to bloom just for them. The light that night was magic, warm and golden, the kind that makes you want to bottle it up and keep it forever.
Tessa’s laughter carried across the field, the kind that fills you up from the inside out. Lauren’s eyes followed her daughter with that unmistakable mix of pride and awe that only mothers know. The two of them slipped into their rhythm easily, full of snuggles and giggles that did not need any prompting from me.
Parenting truth: balance does not really exist. There is no perfect juggling act where every ball stays in the air all the time. Sometimes they fall. Sometimes we fall. And that is okay. You are okay. Your kids are okay. These moments, muddy feet, messy hair, wild laughter, are proof that perfection is not required for a childhood to feel full of love.
Wildflower Magic at MacGregor Park
We started with a few soft, snuggly portraits, but before long Tessa was twirling through the flowers, her floral dress flowing around her like a breeze. Lauren joined in, laughing, chasing, and dancing right beside her. It felt like stepping into one of their living room dance parties, something they do often at home.
The wildflowers moved with the breeze as the sunlight shimmered over them, giving the whole field an incredible glow. I love sessions like this, where everything feels lighthearted and natural and all I have to do is click as love shows up in real time.
A Quiet Ending to a Golden Summer Evening
As the evening light softened, we spread out a quilt in my favorite little hidden patch of flowers. Tessa sat beside her mom, twirling a bloom between her fingers while Lauren gently braided flowers into her hair. Everything about it felt still and easy, like time had slowed down for just those few minutes.
Looking back through their images later, I could not help but feel grateful to document this bond again. The strength, tenderness, and joy between them are what motherhood sessions are all about. These photos are more than just images. They are proof of presence. The kind of reminders that whisper, you are doing better than you think.
